Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Jamacoaque (Jama Coaque) culture, ca. 500 BCE to 500 CE. A mold-formed pottery whistle figure that creates a pleasing, audible sound when air is forced through the mouthpiece behind the head. The figure stands in regal garb bedecked with applied pottery buttons, fringe, bracelets, facial piercings, and a broad necklace, all exhibiting remains of orange and turquoise pigments used for brightly-colored decorations. Size: 2.125" L x 4.75" W x 9.375" H (5.4 cm x 12.1 cm x 23.8 cm)

  • Condition: Stabilized fissure to front of face and chest, with fire-darkening and fading to areas of pigment, softening to some finer details, and light earthen deposits, otherwise in great condition. Nice preservation to figural form, and whistle creates loud sound when played. Moden felt pads beneath feet for stability.
