Description:

Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Jamacoaque (Jama Coaque) culture, ca. 500 CE. A remarkable pottery figural whistle shown standing with bulbous legs and short arms that fall from square shoulders. The stylized visage is comprised of almond-shaped eyes, a projecting, pointed nose, and a straight mouth, all flanked by a pair of prominent ears, each fit with an annular drill hole for suspending ornaments. A round headdress caps the figure, boasting nice remains of black glaze, as well as a risen embellishment on each side. Beautiful, incised decoration filled with white pigment adorns the figure's body, presenting linear and geometric designs that form bracelets, a collar necklace, a belt, kneepads, and anklets. Perforation at the top of the figure's head and behind each shoulder allow it to function as a whistle. Size: 5.5" W x 13.7" H (14 cm x 34.8 cm); 14.2" H (36.1 cm) on included custom stand.

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full report will accompany purchase.
