Description:

Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Jamacoaque, ca. 500 CE. A hand-built pottery warrior figure standing atop an integral rectangular plinth with delineated legs and a tail panel behind the waist. The intimidating figure wears finery decorated with blue-green pigment including a large pectoral collar with a discoid medallion, a broad nose ring, circular ear spools, and blue-green and yellow wrist cuffs, all atop a ground of orange powder pigment. Held in the raised right arm is a lengthy spear, and the outstretched left arm perhaps once held a shield. Ovoid eyes, a rounded chin, and a prominent nose are presented beneath a domed cap with a short brim, and a pair of semicircular panels project from the top. Size: 5.6" L x 4.7" W x 6.4" H (14.2 cm x 11.9 cm x 16.3 cm)

  • Condition: Repaired from multiple large pieces, with resurfacing and light adhesive residue along break lines. Abrasions and light fading to pigmentation, with minor encrustations, and light softening to some finer details. Nice remains of pigment throughout.
