Description:

Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Jama Coaque (Jamacoaque) culture, ca. 200 BCE to 500 CE. Wow! The level of realistic detail on this figure is incredible. The effigy sits wearing a tight headddress tied around his forehead, a loin cloth, and large ear and nose ornaments as well as a heavy necklace and pendant that hangs down onto his loincloth. He sits upright upon plant-like lobes and holds implements in his hands. Remarkable remains of yellow and blue pigment provide color and detai. Researchers believe that what pottery figures wear in this culture is reflective of what real people wore, and so this shaman figure gives us a dramatic glimpse into the past. Size: 5.6" W x 8.8" H (14.2 cm x 22.4 cm)
