Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Jamacoaque (Jama Coaque) culture, ca. 500 CE. A hand-built pottery female figure shown in a seated position while wearing an ankle-length skirt and an enormous headwrap, perhaps to cover an elongated cranium. The woman holds a pair of stone-shaped objects in her hands while supporting a petite child in a sling wrapped around her back and shoulders. Areas of green, red, and orange pigment embellish the figure in typical Jamacoaque manner. Size: 4.875" L x 3.9" W x 5.6" H (12.4 cm x 9.9 cm x 14.2 cm)
