Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Jamacoaque (also Jama Coaque), ca. 500 BCE to 500 CE. An earth-colored terracotta figure of a cacique or lord ruler with a face covered in yellow fugitive pigment exhibiting an elaborate hair style, snake head ear ornaments, a nose ornament, and goatee. The man wears a necklace with a huge discoid pectoral suspended with 2 knotted terminals. The figure is holding a scepter of power and a war club and wears only a loin cloth around his waist. Size: 11" W x 14" H (27.9 cm x 35.6 cm)
