Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. An amusing hand-built terracotta flat figure standing upon arched feet and attenuated legs. His posture boasts a sense of machismo, with shoulders raised and arms flared outwards, his head tilted just slightly back with squinting slit eyes peering in front. A broad nose and triangular ears provide a sense of personality for an otherwise uncomplicated visage, and a grooved headband rests atop a rectangular forehead. Colored in a red slip, this boisterous figure is a wonderfully-expressive example of shaft-tomb culture artistry! Size: 5.5" H (14 cm).

Provenance: private Stagecoach, Nevada, USA collection; acquired from 1985 to present from galleries such as Arte Primitivo, Art For Eternity, Butterfields, and Riverbend Gallery
