Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 200 BCE to 500 CE. This is a male figure strapped to a pallet. The pallet had two hoops, one at each end, but now it just has the one near the man's head. This figure would have been placed into a shaft tomb; small figurines that faced outward around the perimeter of graves inside of shaft tombs are a hallmark of the elusive early West Mexican cultures in Jalisco and neighboring Nayarit and Colima. It seems likely that this figure depicts a man strapped to a funerary pallet, being carried to the grave. Size: 3" x 1-3/4" x 1-3/4" at the pallet hoop.
