Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. An outstanding bi-chrome terracotta seated female figure, skillfully modeled partially nude with voluptuous, exposed breasts and a skirt draping her folded legs. The figure looks ahead with a characteristically oversized head and an expressive visage comprised of bold features - large, almond-shaped eyes, arched brows, an aquiline nose, and a straight mouth - all topped by a high-crested headdress. Her short arms spread out from her square shoulders, which are adorned with applied pellets. A special example from this shaft tomb culture - beautifully enveloped in natural blooms of manganese! Size: 12.25" W x 16" H (31.1 cm x 40.6 cm)

Provenance: private Ojai, California, USA collection, by inheritance, collected before 2000
