Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, San Juanito style, Protoclassic period, ca. 100 BCE to 250 CE. A lovely example of a hollow-formed San Juanito female figure with splashes of earthy red pigment adorning her brow, face, neckline, and abdomen. The beige-slipped and black-striped figure sits with spread legs, an upright posture displaying her breasts, and arms held with outward-facing palms in perhaps a defensive gesture. The elongated head bears impressed eyes and lips, tassel earrings on each ear, tall cheeks that flank a prominent aquiline nose, and a tall forehead surmounted by a simple cap. Size: 7.75" W x 13.375" H (19.7 cm x 34 cm)
