Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 100 BCE to 200 CE. The red slip figurine depicts a male figure wearing an elaborate headdress, neck collar and belt. On this particular piece, you can clearly see the craftsmanship of the sculpture, particularly around the headdress and belt. Several carved decorative features remain on this piece that do not often survive. Flat human figurines were frequently placed within shaft-and-chamber tombs in Jalisco during this time period; similar figures are often described as having a hieratic style with staring eyes and stiff postures. Size: 1-1/2" x 3" x 8". Provenance: Ex-private Mcdonald collection, Houston TX, acquired at local gallery or at auction between 1982 and 1994. All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. #108226

  • Condition: The figurine has relatively little wear compared to similar pieces, with much of the original decoration still visible. There are no chips or cracks.
