Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. An ornate hand-built standing female figure, styled from an unusual beige-hued terracotta, with characteristically attenuated limbs, a wide torso, prominent breasts, and rounded shoulders. Her "sheepface" visage, defined by her elongated face, protruding nose, pointed and upturned ears, and slightly-bulging almond-shaped eyes, is complemented by the large and finely-detailed earspools; she also displays an elongated forehead which is wrapped with a lavish headband. Painted white details are present on her feet, loincloth, chest adornments, and beaded pectoral. A lovely figure with an unusual color! Size: 9.75" H (24.8 cm).

Provenance: private Stagecoach, Nevada, USA collection; acquired from 1985 to present from galleries such as Arte Primitivo, Art For Eternity, Butterfields, and Riverbend Gallery
