Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 200 BCE to 200 CE. From his seated pose, this warrior with his muscular physique is poised for attack, bearing an axe or mace dagger in his right hand and a large square shield in his left. His visage is quite dramatic with leering eyes, a protruding nose fitted with a nosering, and an open mouth showing gritting teeth. Remains of red and white pigment as well as generous manganese deposits grace the surface. Size: 7.25" W x 8" H (18.4 cm x 20.3 cm)
