Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A seated male figure presenting a pose that brings to mind the popular image of 'the thinker' (pensador in Spanish) and an emaciated body with a delineated spine. Nude except for his elaborate ear ornaments and a headband, he projects a pensive and somewhat melancholy expression with those half-closed coffee bean eyes which may indicate a trance-like or deceased state given the death bubble protruding from his lips. Figure is painted with red on buff striations and details. Size: 6" W x 9.75" H (15.2 cm x 24.8 cm)
