Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A hand-built pottery vessel in the form of a horned lizard (or horntoad, genus Phrynosoma, literally "toad-bodied") with stocky legs, a bulbous abdomen with a wide mouth, and a short conical tail projecting from the rear. The head boasts a petite mouth and squinting, wide-set eyes beneath six radiating horns. Vibrant red-orange slip accentuates most of the upper body, and the belly is left unpainted to display its natural buffware color. Size: 6.375" L x 4.7" W x 3.375" H (16.2 cm x 11.9 cm x 8.6 cm).
