Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE, probably later in the period (ca. 3rd century CE). A fine grayware figure of a seated female with a large head proportional to her body and a naturalistic pose despite her stylized limbs. Size: 5" L x 4.45" W x 6.55" H (12.7 cm x 11.3 cm x 16.6 cm)

The grayware style is probably later, and perhaps related to the style known as Ameca. Recent excavation of a tomb in Jalisco yielded a range of radiocarbon dates that suggest the grayware figures were made later than others in the same tomb; these figures were characterized not only by their gray material, but also by well-molded details, especially of the face.
