Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, Ca. 200 BCE to 200 CE. An impressive painted terracotta sheepface warrior figure. He stands erect with both arms out, holding a long club in his hands; note how the sculptor even delineated the fingers grasping the implement. Elaborately decorated, this gent dons a tall headdress, large round ear ornaments, a multi-strand necklace, and a single-shoulder strapped garment that covers a portion of his upper body. Overall slip painted red with all ornaments as well as his weapon finely painted with white slip embellishments. Quite a strong sheep-faced figure, very striking! Size: 4.625" W x 7.25" H (11.7 cm x 18.4 cm)

Provenance: Ex - Private W. S. collection, Los Angeles, Ca
