Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 200 BCE to 200 CE. A lovely standing female figure finished in a bichrome color scheme of red and cream hues. This lady boasts a characteristic elongated head with fanciful headdress, a long coiffure, elaborate ear ornaments, and double armbands. Her limbs are attenuated, a custom that serves to bring our attention to her wide torso and voluptuous form. Her visage is detailed in a minimalist manner with a long, slender nose, relatively small, coffee bean shaped eyes and incised mouth - traits akin to those of modern master Modigliani's female subjects. Comes with lucite stand. Size: Figure itself measures 9-1/4" x 5-1/2" (23.5 x 14 cm)

Provenance: Ex-private Hooper Collection, California, acquired via family descent
