Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, Aneca-Azatham style, ca. 100 BCE to 250 CE. A polychrome pottery seated warrior figure, created in the Aneca-Azatham style, wielding a large spiked club (perhaps fitted with spikey maceheads) and donning a conical crested helmet and barrel type chest armor. His noble visage presents incised, coffee bean shaped eyes, a very pronounced long, protruding nose adorned with an applied nosering, an open mouth with delineated teeth, ornamented ears, and an expression that exudes immense pride. A strong example finely painted with red on cream ground. There are also some remaining traces of painted black facial decoration. Among my favorite features are the carefully modeled fingers gripping that intimidating club! Size: 7.5" L x 6.25" W x 13.5" H (19 cm x 15.9 cm x 34.3 cm)
