Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A wonderful bi-chrome terracotta vessel of a mesmerizing form comprised of a kneeling hunchback figure supporting the large bowl upon his back. The bowl presents with an attractive crimped rim and a broad shallow form. The figure looks downward with a visage that expresses tremendous exertion; after all, he is carrying a heavy load. In the Pre-Columbian world, hunchbacks' physiognomic deformities were interpreted as signs that these individuals were especially chosen by the deities and possessed supernatural abilities. Size: 7.625" W x 7.5" H (19.4 cm x 19 cm)
