Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A charming hand-built pottery sculpture depicting an adult dog supporting a smaller puppy on its back, each defined by a stocky, cream-slipped body accentuated with red paint, attenuated legs, and an upturned conical tail. The triangular heads display impressed circular eyes and tapered snouts, with that of the larger dog bearing a bifurcated collar around the neck as well as an narrow mouth upturned as if howling at the sky or encouraging the puppy to stay balanced. An adorable and ancient example of man's best friends! Size: 5.5" L x 3.5" W x 4.8" H (14 cm x 8.9 cm x 12.2 cm).
