Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, Ameca style, Protoclassic period, ca. 100 BCE to 250 CE. A lovely, hand-built pottery seated "cargador" (literally "carrier") figure with crossed legs, a hunched back, rounded shoulders, and stylized hands. The head boasts ovoid eyes with raised lids and pupils, a prominent nose, a thin mouth, cupped ears, and a wide brow beneath a simple cap. Projecting from the figure's back is a wide bowl with a deep basin and a spoked rim indicative of the load which the cargador is carrying. Traces of original red pigmentation are visible on the arms and legs of the figure. Size: 6.5" W x 8.1" H (16.5 cm x 20.6 cm).
