Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, Ameca type, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A valiant Jalisco seated warrior figure, weilding his intimidatingly large club across his chest, wearing a traditional crested helmet and barrel shaped armor (shedding new light on the term 'barrel chested'), and addressing the viewer with a serious "I mean business" attitude. The helmet features painted black triangular motifs on a red ground, and the armor is slip painted with a polychrome scheme of red, black, and white vertical striations. A wonderfully fierce personage from the ancients of West Mexico. Size: 6.25" L x 5.5" W x 9.125" H (15.9 cm x 14 cm x 23.2 cm)

Provenance: Ex - private LA County collection acquired before 1990
