Description:

Northern Italy, Etruria, Italo-Corinthian, ca. 7th to 6th century BCE. A wheel-thrown pottery thymiaterion used to slowly burn incense. The vessel is comprised of a wide, round base, a slender neck with a single discoid rib, a large, shallow bowl with a slight overhanging lip, and a thick rim. The base, stem, and bowl are decorated with red and brown slip, though some worn areas reveal the tan buffware beneath. Size: 5.25" W x 4.1" H (13.3 cm x 10.4 cm).

  • Condition: Surface wear and minor abrasions commensurate with age, very minor nicks to base, stem, and rim, with some fading and wear to pigmentation, otherwise intact and very good. Light earthen deposits and nice root marks throughout.
