Description:

Ancient Mediterranean, Italic culture, possibly Picenum (Picentes culture), ca. 6th century BCE. A fascinating double-headed bull figure, made from a bronze-iron alloy displaying a lovely, minimalist form. Standing atop 4 spread legs, the animal presents 2 large, opposite-facing heads, each displaying a tapered snout and raised ears or horns. A vertical drill hole pierces the flank, perhaps serving as a suspension hole for the figure to be worn as a bead or pendant. Size: 1.7" L x 0.6" W x 1.1" H (4.3 cm x 1.5 cm x 2.8 cm)

Cf. Musee du Louvre, ED 4194 and 4196.
