Description:

Holyland, Judea, Iron Age, ca. 9th to 8th century BCE. This piece is a pretty cream-colored pottery pitcher with a single curved handle and a raised rim around the spout. The marks of the potter's wheel are very clear, especially around the inside of the spout. This was the time period when Judea was becoming a regional power as Assyria and Egypt entered a decline; pottery made there would have been used locally in households and businesses, but influenced by the styles seen from Phoenician traders and other cultures around the Mediterranean. Size: 9-1/2"H x 5-1/2" (24 cm x 14 cm).

Provenance: Ex-private Bates Collection, Clarksville, IA, ex-Joel Malter Collection, acquired before 1990
