Ancient Central Europe, Austria/Germany, probably Hallstatt culture, ca. 8th to 7th century BCE. A striking bracelet comprised of hammered 75% gold (equivalent to 18K) sheet, the oval face of which is impressed with a border of repeated lashed apotropaic eye motifs that surround a central singular eye. A pair of slender bands extending from the face forms the wrist cuff. One of the bands is attractively crimped to create a wavy profile and features impressed circular motifs to further adorn it. A stunning piece of wearable art from the early Iron Age with apotropaic eyes designed to protect the wearer and ward off evil. Gold quality: 75%, equivalent to 18K. Size: oval face measures 2.125" L x 2.75" W (5.4 cm x 7 cm); opening measures 2.5" W (6.4 cm); wrist bands measure about 1.5" L (3.8 cm) each; weight: 18.8 grams
