Andrew "Andy" Palongayak (First Nations / Canada, Inuit, Gjoa Haven / Uqsuqtuuq, b. 1946). Disc Number W2-282. Hunter holding knife. Soapstone and bone carving, n.d. Signed "Andrew" with other symbols on underside of foot. An evocative soapstone carving of a janiform hunter with inlaid shell eyes wielding a knife made from animal bone. Raising one hand high above his head, the figure lunges to one side, stepping forward with one foot, and pointing his dagger outward from his portly body. Skewed sideways, his head presents a face one each side, each featuring inlaid eyes with delineated pupils, drilled nostrils, an incised nasal bridge, and a straight mouth surrounded by starburst like incisions intended as facial hair. Size: 6.8" L x 5.1" W x 7.3" H (17.3 cm x 13 cm x 18.5 cm)

  • Condition: Signed "Andrew" with other symbols on underside of foot. Missing implement from one hand, and knife is removable. A few miniscule abrasions, but otherwise, nice presentation with smooth surfaces.

For shipments of oversize items, Artemis Gallery will assist the buyer in working with a third-party shipping provider. For shipments outside of the USA, customs and duties may apply upon entry into said country, and this fee, if any, is the buyer's responsibility.
