Description:

Kinaalik Ningiurluut (First Nations / Canadian, Sugluk / Salluit, disc number E9-1284, b. 1930). Soapstone carving, n.d. Disc number inscribed on underside of base. A fascinating soapstone carving by Inuit artist Kinaalik Ningiurluut featuring a seated figure facing forward with hands resting on chest as another figure sits behind and places hands on his shoulders. The second figure turns his head to his right, while abstract heads or feet protrude at the bottom. The stylized depiction of the subject as well as the minimalist characteristics are suggestive of a transformation scene. Size: 5" L x 4.9" W x 7.3" H (12.7 cm x 12.4 cm x 18.5 cm)
