Description:

Native American / First Nations, Northwest Coast United States, Alaska or Canada, Inupiaq / Inuit people, ca. mid to late 20th century CE. A sculpture of soapstone walrus heads atop a whalebone base, each perched on wood pegs. Separate bone tusks are inserted in the drilled holes on the jaws of several. A charming scene: perhaps they are peering out from a hole in the ice. Please note the heads are not secure on the base and heads and tusks will need some assembly. Size: 7.75" L x 6.25" W x 5.5" H (19.7 cm x 15.9 cm x 14 cm)

  • Condition: Abrasions, chips and wear to the stone heads. Wood pegs need to be replaced or glued to heads to secure and protect the stone. Heads are topheavy and not easily balanced. Tusks are completely loose and can be inserted and removed. Fair condition. Unsigned.
