Native American / First Nations, Northwest Coast United States, Alaska or Canada, Inupiaq/Inuit people, ca. mid-20th century CE. A delightful soapstone carving of a sled pulled by three dogs! The sled is carved from a single piece of stone, open work slats spanning the runner blades and a caribou fur hide lashed to the sled with cotton and leather cords. The dog team of 3 are carved in a trotting motion- legs striding forward, and leather harnesses are tied around their bodies. Size of sled: 9.75" L x 3.3" W (24.8 cm x 8.4 cm)

  • Condition: Losses to dog tails on 2, and chips and abrasions to all legs. Missing front leg on one and rear foot on another, but both still stand upright. Cracking and losses to leather harness straps. Sled has a repair to one slat with adhesive and some minor abrasions.
