Description:

**Originally Listed At $500**

Native American / First Nations, Northwestern United States, Alaska, or Canada, Inuit culture, ca. mid-20th century CE. A model toggling harpoon spear made from cedarwood with a barbed bone tip and dart attached by a length of cotton cord tied to both ends of the pole. Model hunting tools were made to sell and demonstrate their construction to Europeans, and later they were made as souvenirs. To use, the blade would have been inserted into the drilled hole on the bone tip, it was intended to detach when it pierced flesh- the hunter could then pull on the cords to reel it in. This design saved the wood handle from breaking during the struggle. Size: 50.5" L x 1" W (128.3 cm x 2.5 cm)
