Description:

Charlie Komakhuk (Native American, Inuit, contemporary) ca. 2000 CE. A hand carved cedarwood kayak with stone figures and a seal draped over on the prow. Sinew cords are attached to a pair of harpoons with bone tips that can fit into the upraised hand, and a thin paddle made from a thin sheet of horn is held by the front figure. Behind the second hunter is a seal skin float which is blown up as an inflatable buoy that attaches to one harpoon. The underside is signed by the artist "Charlie Komakhuk / Nome AK / 2000." Size: 21" L x 2.75" W x 4.5" H (53.3 cm x 7 cm x 11.4 cm)
