Description:

Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, Guanacaste / Nicoya region, ca. 1 to 500 CE. A light green to almost white hard-stone celt, carved in an abstract avian form of lovely proportions, embellished with a crested head, circular drilled eyes, incised beak, wings, and touching claws across the breast. A finely curved blade pierced for suspension with a custom, museum-quality stand. Costa Rica was one of only two regions where jade and hardstone like this was carved extensively in the Pre-Columbian era. Beyond the artistry and craftsmanship of this piece is the inherent breathtaking beauty of the stone, polished to an impressive luster.
