Description:

Near East, Pakistan/ Afghanistan, Megharth period, ca. 2800 to 2600 BCE. A fabulously abstract, bird-faced Indus Valley pottery fertility goddess figurine, standing with arms extended outward at her sides and an expressive stylized visage on a characteristically elongated head. Created in tribute to the gods and goddesses of the cultures of the ancient Indus Valley, such figurines are found throughout the region, yet few boast such an elaborately decorated presence, including an applied headdress and coiffure and multi-stranded necklace above her voluptuous breasts. At more than 4,000 years old, this figure still conjures the ancients' connections between the female form and fertility. Comes with custom stand. Size: 4.875" H (12.4 cm); height on stand: 5.45" (13.8 cm)
