Description:

Central Asia, Indus Valley, Meghargh period, ca. 3500 to 2800 BCE. A wonderful Bronze Age pottery statue, probably representing a fertility goddess. The figure is shown in fine detail with deep-set round eyes, and a bird-like face, a veiled headdress over her lobed coiffure, a multi-strand pectoral with five round appliques over her ample breasts. This piece dates to the Meghargh periods IV - VI. Interestingly, scholars now believe that the pottery of Meghargh supersedes that of Mesopotamia in being the earliest known polychrome ceramics produced by humans. Custom stand. Size: 4.125" H (10.5 cm); 4.5" H (11.4 cm) on stand
