Central Asia, ca. 2nd millennium BCE. A wonderful pottery vessel, finely painted with an intricate decorative program comprised of a lower register of horizontal red and black bands, a central register of repeated rectangular panels delineated with diagonal lines emanating from the hypotenuse of a right triangle in the lower right corner, and an upper register of alternating right-side up and upside down triangles - all in rich red and black pigments with white mineral deposits. Size: 4.25" in diameter x 4.625" H (10.8 cm x 11.7 cm)
