Description:

Near East, Pakistan/ Afghanistan, Megharth period, ca. 2800 to 2600 BCE. A characteristically bird-faced Indus Valley fertility goddess figurine, positioned in a quasi-sitting pose with arms toward the front and an expressive stylized visage on a characteristically elongated head. Created in tribute to the gods and goddesses of the cultures of the ancient Indus Valley, such figurines are found throughout the region, yet few boast such an elaborately decorated presence, including an applied headdress and coiffure and a multi-stranded necklace applied just above her voluptuous breasts. It never ceases to amaze us, that as ancient as this figurine is, it continues to emit mystery and wondrous symbolism. Size: 4.625" H (11.7 cm)
