Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Central Asia, Indus Valley, Mehrgarh period, ca. 2500 to 2000 BCE. A hand-made pottery figure of a voluptuous woman in a seated position with arms held outward. She is highly stylized with a slender waist that accentuates her wide hips, and breasts, and she is depicted nude, save for several layers of necklaces and a sizeable headdress, both adorned with incised and applied details. Gazing forward, her abstract visage exhibits annular, drilled eyes, a pinched nose, and impressed mouth. Figurines like this example are found throughout the region and perhaps represent goddesses, matriarchs, or a religious worshipper. Size: 5.75" L x 2.25" W (14.6 cm x 5.7 cm); 8" H (20.3 cm) on included custom stand.

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full printed and bound report is available to the buyer upon request.
