Description:

Central Asia, India/Pakistan, Indus Valley civilization, Harappa, ca. early 2nd millennium BCE. A beautiful diminutive copper bowl with a small, round foot, steep walls, and four little birds evenly spaced around the rim, perched as if ready to dip a head and drink from the bowl's contents. The people of this early civilization had learned to work with gold, silver, lead, and copper, but the process for creating copper/bronze items was elaborate and copper objects like this bowl were likely reserved for the highest levels of society. Indeed, the bowl's ancient repair is evidence of its value - its owners chose to make a repair rather than acquire a new one. Size: 3.9" W x 2.5" H (9.9 cm x 6.4 cm)
