Description:

Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Western Java, ca. 17th to 18th century. Very rare and fine ivory kris (keris) handle carved in ivory which clearly shows this has advanced age. Carved in the form of a demon-like figure with a dramatically inclined head, bulging eyeballs, a smile, mustache, and curly hair. The finely carved figure wears a fanciful necklace, flaming bracelets, a flower upon his belly as well as covering his genitals. These characteristics are all attributes of the classic demon figure from the north-western coast of Java. An amazing, early example! Custom stand.
