Description:

**Originally Listed At $300**

Near East to Central Asia, Indo-Persian culture, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A lovely and petite knife known as a khanjar, with a downward curing "pistol grip" handle and curved iron blade. The nielloed handle has a matching niello sheath featuring scrolling vines. Niello is a mixture of copper, silver, and lead sulphates with a black color, often inlayed or engraved onto etched metal. The lack of loops for suspension and the size suggests this knife was intended for use as a letter opener. Size in sheath: 6.3" L x 1" W (16 cm x 2.5 cm); blade: 3" L x 0.5" W (7.6 cm x 1.3 cm)

Provenance: private New Haven, Connecticut, USA collection
