Description:

** A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this lot will benefit The Fowler Museum at UCLA **

Central Asia, India, ca. mid-20th century CE. A lovely metal sculpture depicting a cow standing in profile, the main body comprised of two metal sheets conjoined so as to endow the body with some volume, with soldered ears, horns, utters, a long tail, and tubular legs, all upon a rectangular metal platform. The painted color scheme is quite pleasing, the body of a golden blonde hue, the blanket upon its back painted a bright corn yellow with a black diamond pattern punctuated by green dots surrounded by white halos, and a concentric, repeated circular motif adorning other parts of the cow, most notably the two strands around its neck and a matching one upon its hind quarters. The endearing bovine looks straight ahead and upward with its large, soulful, golden eyes. A beautiful example of Indian folk art. Size: 14.75" L x 18.75" H (37.5 cm x 47.6 cm)
