Central Asia, Himalayan region, Northern India / Tibet, Ladakh culture, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A beautiful collar necklace made from silver beads, coral, turquoise, and copal strung on 5 strands. The larger silver charms are 72% to 76% silver; the lower fringe beads are known as champakali and resemble flower buds. The smaller spacer beads are comprised of 55% to 61% silver. Although ornate, such a necklace was probably worn regularly, if not every day, as a display of social status and literally stored a woman's wealth.
