Description:

Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Inca, ca. 1300 to 1500 CE. At first glance this might look like your typical (albeit larger than normal ) Incan aryballos. But upon closer examination you will notice the decoration is applied in negative resist technique found commonly in the Narino area of Ecuador/Colombia. This vessel is classic Inca, but also classic Narino in decoration. This shows very clearly how far-reaching the Inca empire stretched. Large jar with pointed base, twin handles which would have been tied to the one carrying it via a tump line wrapped around the head. The body is decorated with corn stalks and geometric designs. An amazing vessel! Size: 14" (35.6 cm) x 12-1/2" (31.8 cm).
