Spain, ca. 300 to 150 BCE. Incredible iron short sword of a type known as a type VI, Arcobriga antenna short sword. Medium-sized blade tapeing toward the end with multiple ridges down the length on each side. Pommel with horse heads to each side, circular handle and double-button hilt, handle engraved with repeating circular dots. This sword has been argued as the prototype of the Roman gladius hispaniensis. A Byzantine lexicon, called the Souda, compiled at the end of the 10th century, mentions the adoption of an Iberian sword by the Republican Romans from the Second Punic War.
