Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, north coast, Chimu or Chancay, ca. 1000 to 1300 CE. I have loved Pre-Columbian textiles since I first saw the amazing examples in the National Museum in Lima. This incredible example rivals many of the finest I saw in Peru. Long sash woven in alternating bands of tan, gold, red, pink and white, colorful tassel at each end. What makes this example so extraordinary is the weaving technique. It is comprised of thin gauze panels interspersed with the solid colorful decorations in crosses, temple steps and various geometric shapes. A truly special example! Size: 92" L x 3.625" W (233.7 cm x 9.2 cm)
