Pre-Columbian, Mayan Territories, Yucatan Peninsula, ca. 550 to 900 CE. An absolutely amazing shell armband found diuring the construction of a dwelling in Uxmal in the 1950's. Made of incised conch shell with central image of a seated lord wearing elaborate headdress, necklace and earspools. He is reaching forward and holds a textured basket with an unknown object. Just beneath his hand is an unknown glyph, perhaps an identification of the offering. Size: 4.25" L x 3.875" W (10.8 cm x 9.8 cm)

Provenance: ex-Bastiaan collection, acquired at Artemis Gallery in 2004.
