Pre-Columbian, Peru, Inca culture, ca. 1500 CE. Rare textile with intriguing iconography featuring registers of anthropomorphic figures containing representations of alter egos within their bodies. Rows of figures are separated by a geometric zigzag pattern. Woven in camelid fibers of burgundy, teal, olive-green, cream, and black. Mounted on museum-quality black linen. Wonderful provenance! Textile itself measures 17" (43.25 cm) at widest x 14" (35.75 cm). Provenance: Ex-Koella Collection, Switzerland; Ex-Alt Amerikanisches Museum, Zurich.
