Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Inca, ca. 1500 CE. Bags like this example were used to store coca leaves and have been discovered in sacred offering sites of the Andes. Characteristic of Inca textiles, we see symmetrically arranged woven stripes in shades of red, brown, blue, taupe, yellow ochre, and cream created with a tight weft-faced plain weave. The strap is comprised of a blue and beige woven length tied to another woven strand of natural hues. Adding to the design are lovely knotted tassels adorning the lower end. Size: 9.5" L x 9.5" W (24.1 cm x 24.1 cm); strap 32"L
